This blog is late. Sorry. Forgot we had class yesterday. The blogs are fun though so here it is.
Yesterday in class we finished watching the movie about the situation of the world's growing population. It amazes me that in the modern world people are still living in such terrible conditions in countries like Kenya and India. Living among trash and filth in very close proximity to millions of people is not good. It also unhealthy for the average woman in India to have a fertility rate of 7. That is unbelievably high for any country. Although, it really isn;t the woman's fault. Women in India generally don't have a choice when it comes to reproduction. Their husbands want at least two sons to care for them when they get older, and they will keep trying to get these sons until they finally do. Even if it takes eight, nine, even ten births to do so. In fact the want for a son in India is so great that some wealthier people pay for ultrasounds to find weather or not it is a boy or girl. If it is a girl they usually have an abortion. Of course it is illegal for a doctor to give the information pertaining to the gender of the infant, bur they can still be bribed. This has led to a massive decrease of women in India. So much so that it is truly a cause for concern.
As for Africa, in the country of Kenya, Nairobi to be exact, there is a massive epidemic of the aids virus. Not HIV, full blown aids. This has led to a decreased lifespan in Kenya. The cause of the spread is mostly caused by prostitution. Many women in Nairobi live in extreme poverty and have a family to feed. Therefor they don't have much of a choice. It is truly a sad situation.
