Today in class some weird stuff happened. Two students were picked to ask questions for everyone else to answer. I tried to overthrow them, but ultimately complied to the Democratic System which I hold so dear. There was a lot of yelling too. Tickets.

Today in class we took down more notes on I've of the major religions in the world. We also briefly discussed the tragic events that transpired over in Paris last week. It truly is sad the amount of violence caused by such petty matters as Religious beliefs and lust for power.

In Buddhist culture, Buddha is depicted as being both skinny and fat. The reason for him being skinny is, according to the legend, due to the fact that when he was younger his was royalty. He never knew what life was like outside until one day he left the comfort of his palace or castle and took a ride around the town and streets. What he saw changed his perspective and way of life. He saw extreme poverty, the sick, and people dying in the streets. He left his comfortable life style and went to live amongst the poor. It is said that due to extreme poverty and fasting in his new lifestyle, Buddha was so skinny that he could touch the front of his spine through his stomach. This is obviously impossible, but likely has some truth to it. He probably was very skinny, but not to that possible extent. That is why he is depicted as being extremely skinny. The reason he is sometimes depicted as being fat is that, quite simply, he believed that fat people were happy and content. I honestly prefer the depiction of him being fat.

I got this information from my brain. I remember all this information form 6th grade History.

I got an 11/20 on the online quiz.

Abraham is considered a patriarch in Christianity, Islam, and Judaism. He is also considered a prophet who spreads the word of God.

Martin Luther was very opposed to Indulgences because he believed that pay your way into heaven, which wouldn't work anyway, was wrong and shouldn't be allowed in the Catholic Church. This problem was among the 95 thesis he nailed to his Church's door. After that the Catholic Church began to shut him out and eventually excommunicate him due to him trying to expose the fact that the Church was making easy money by exploiting those who wanted to get into heaven.

The Hajj is a mandatory religious pilgrimage taken by Muslims who can physically and financially afford it. It occurs to the 8th to 12th of the last month on the Muslim calendar. The journey takes several days and involves many steps, including the sacrificing o the animals, and the cutting of the hair.

The Rigveda is the first of the Vedic Texts and contains 1,028 hymns

The Samaveda contains 1549 and most of it comes from the Rigveda

The Atharvaveda has about 760 hymns best of them being common with the Rigged.

The Yajurveda consists mostly of prose verses. There are 1875 verses

Today in class we went over our test and began taking notes on our new unit. Our new unit is Religions across the world or just the major religions. We started with the one we're all familiar with: Christianity. We took some notes: 2.2 billion Adherent Christians in the world. It is one of, if not the largest religion in the world.

Today in class we took a test on the video we watched over the course of about a week. I did pretty good, I got a 93 The test was barely easy, most of the questions being very obvious. The only way you could have failed it is if you paid absolutely no attention to the video in class. That wouldn't be an excuse either, because you could go home and watch it by yourself if you needed to. Also, you could use your blog posts for the test. That's pretty much an open notes test by my definition. Of course, that is unless you didn't put anything in your blog worth knowing. Anyway afterwards we had an "evacuation drill", which took away our ten minute break. Not that we need it anyway. Ten minutes is just more time to get everyone jumpy before last mod starts.

Peace!

Blog

This blog is late. Sorry. Forgot we had class yesterday. The blogs are fun though so here it is.

Yesterday in class we finished watching the movie about the situation of the world's growing population. It amazes me that in the modern world people are still living in such terrible conditions in countries like Kenya and India. Living among trash and filth in very close proximity to millions of people is not good. It also unhealthy for the average woman in India to have a fertility rate of 7. That is unbelievably high for any country. Although, it really isn;t the woman's fault. Women in India generally don't have a choice when it comes to reproduction. Their husbands want at least two sons to care for them when they get older, and they will keep trying to get these sons until they finally do. Even if it takes eight, nine, even ten births to do so. In fact the want for a son in India is so great that some wealthier people pay for ultrasounds to find weather or not it is a boy or girl. If it is a girl they usually have an abortion. Of course it is illegal for a doctor to give the information pertaining to the gender of the infant, bur they can still be bribed. This has led to a massive decrease of women in India. So much so that it is truly a cause for concern.

As for Africa, in the country of Kenya, Nairobi to be exact, there is a massive epidemic of the aids virus. Not HIV, full blown aids. This has led to a decreased lifespan in Kenya. The cause of the spread is mostly caused by prostitution. Many women in Nairobi live in extreme poverty and have a family to feed. Therefor they don't have much of a choice. It is truly a sad situation.

Today in class we weren't able to watch any more of the video because for some reason youtube was blocked for the teachers and not the students. Instead we talked about the notes we had written down about the video. I'll be completely honest, I was bored. Tickets.
